Walkers from 12 churches located in Carol Stream, Bartlett, and West Chicago head out on a 5 Mile Walk Against Hunger. We walk in honor of the many people around the world who must walk miles every day to get food and clean water! 925 million people worldwide do not have enough to eat; 1 in 7 people will go to bed hungry tonight.
Thanks to CROP WALKS, Church World Service is at work in over 80 countries responding to the quiet devastation that is hunger, poverty, and disease. It may not make the evening news, but that devastation can shatter lives as surely as a hurricane. Hunger means different things in different places. In Southern Africa it may mean crop failures, food shortages, and famine resulting from prolonged drought. Families and communities may need emergency food, as well as seeds for replanting. In the highlands of Bolivia, it may mean malnutrition resulting from inadequate protein in the family diet. There, training in fish farming can mean improved health for parents and children. Our bodies also need an adequate supply of clean water to survive and thrive. So, in many communities, clean water wells--along with improved irrigation for gardens--can mean life and health.
St. Andrew is dedicated to supporting the important work of Church World Service. Each year we have had a large group of participants and raised a significant amount of money. We want this year to be our biggest and best ever! Here is how you can help:
• Walk the 1, 3, or 5 mile route
• Support a Walker with a generous donation
• Use the online CROP Walker option
• Be a Spirit Walker – raise funds though unable to walk
• Participate in the Men’s Chili Cook-off
